2026 ACA Open Enrollment Calendar
- November 1: Open Enrollment begins for most states
- December 15: Enroll by this date for January 1 coverage start
- January 15: Open Enrollment ends for federal marketplace (Healthcare.gov)
- February 1: Coverage begins for plans enrolled between Dec 16 – Jan 15
State Exchange Extended Deadlines
Several states run their own exchanges with different deadlines. California (Covered California), New York, Massachusetts, DC, and others often extend enrollment to January 31 or later. Always check your state exchange directly.
What If You Miss Open Enrollment?
If you miss the deadline, you have two options:
- Wait for next year’s Open Enrollment — unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period
- Qualify for a SEP based on a life event: losing job-based insurance, getting married, having a baby, moving to a new state, or other qualifying events
